Terry Francona has agreed to a contract extension through 2011 after leading the Red Sox to two World Series championships in his four seasons as manager.
The deal announced Sunday includes club options for 2012 and 2013, according to an Associated Press report.
Report: Stewart Agrees To Join Blue Jays
According to numerous media reports, outfielder Shannon Stewart has agreed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, ESPN.com is reporting.
Stewart spent his first eight seasons with the Blue Jays before being dealt to the Twins in 2003. He spent last year with the Athletics.
Pirates Officially Sign Byung-Hyun Kim
The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed right-handed pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim to a one year contract. The Pirates have designated infielder Ray Olmedo for assignment.
"Byung-Hyun Kim is a veteran right handed pitcher who has pitched and wants to again pitch, late in bullpen," said Huntington. "He has been tough on right-handed hitters over the past three seasons and had both left-handed hitters and right-handed hitters when he pitched primarily as a reliever. Byung-Hyun will hwill a role on our club as a reliever, and he adds an experienced option for us in our bullpen competition."
Perez Wins Arbitration Case, Gets Raise
Starting pitcher Oliver Perez won his salary arbitration case against the New York Mets on Friday and will make $6.5 million this season, according to the Associated Press.
The Mets were offering Perez $4.7 million.
Angels Beat K-Rod, But Will Still Receive $10M
The Angels defeated Francisco Rodriguez in salary arbitration Friday, and the closer will receive $10M rather than his request for $12.5M, according to an Associated Press report.
Despite the loss, Rodriguez tied the record for the highest salary in an arbitration decision; a mark he shares with Alfonso Soriano, who lost his case against the Nationals in 2006, and Ryan Howard. Howard beat the Phillies on Thursday.
Nixon, Arizona Agree To Terms
The Arizona Diamondbacks and outfielder Trot Nixon have agreed to terms on a minor-league contract, according to The East Valley Tribune.
The team values him as an insurance outfielder.
